At Laings we are focusing on the growth of our bespoke jewellery, jewellery manufacturing and jewellery servicing. We have an exciting opportunity for an accomplished and talented Goldsmith to assist as part of a highly skilled team who are supporting this goal. The successful candidate will embrace Laings passion for excellence and quality, as our Goldsmiths constantly strive to uphold high-standards, ever mindful of our clients expectations.
Assisting across 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend work when required, our position is located in the heart of Glasgow.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
1. Assist with jewellery manufacture to include, mount preparation and assembly, as well as manufacture of classic pieces to specific requirements and timescales.
2. Complete service work in line with skill level.
3. Provide customer estimates for service work, using accurate amount of material and time to calculate.
4. Provide clear and accurate manufacturing estimates for labour on cast pieces.
5. Maintain or exceed all quality criteria for work undertaken in line with our brand standards.
6. Maintaining accurate records of tasks undertaken and materials used.
7. Responsible for a safe working environment, ensuring all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
8. Responsible for maintaining all tooling and equipment used in position to a high standard.
Person specification
9. Exceptional eye for detail and be able to complete all Jewellery Service work and repairs.
10. Manufacture of classic solitaire and articulated drop mounts for round and square stone items of jewellery in all precious metals and various setting styles (claw, bezel, rex) to correct dimensions and proportions.
11. Manufacture various findings and fittings for jewellery pieces (hinges, box clasps, hinged shanks etc).
12. Basic Wax Carving.
13. Confident in both use of laser welder or solder along with testing all metals.
14. Can tighten hard round stones in channel, bar, tension, claw and bezel settings.
15. Pearl Drilling.
16. Basic Stone Identification.
17. Exemplary finishing skills.
18. Proven track record within a professional jewellery environment.
