Senior/Lead Data Scientist – Fintech Lending
London / Hybrid
We’re working with a London-based fintech lender looking to hire a commercially minded Senior/Lead Data Scientist to help drive better lending decisioning, pricing, customer understanding and broader business performance.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys solving real commercial problems with data and wants to work closely with senior leadership in a scaling fintech environment. The role sits closely with the CTO, CEO and Head of Operations, with real ownership across high-impact lending and operational challenges.
The business has already built strong underlying data foundations and is now looking for someone who can take that further — using data science, analytics and AI where appropriate to improve how decisions are made across the business.
The role will involve:
* Using data to improve lending and commercial decision-making
* Supporting pricing analysis and helping the business better understand customer value and portfolio performance
* Building insight-led solutions around customer behaviour, performance and profitability
* Improving lending decisioning, approval logic and broader internal processes through data and automation
* Applying strong traditional data science techniques, with scope to use AI tools / workflows where useful
* Working closely with senior leadership on business-critical problems
* Taking ownership of problems from idea through to practical solution
1. What they’re looking for:
* Around 3–5 years of commercial experience in Data Science / Decision Science / advanced analytics
* Strong Python skills
* Solid grounding in traditional data science, modelling and statistical thinking
* Experience working with modern data environments / warehouses
* Ability to work independently and operate as a genuine self-starter
* Strong communication skills and ability to work with senior stakeholders
* Commercial mindset — someone who enjoys solving business problems, not just technical ones
* Experience in fintech, lending, credit risk, underwriting, pricing, scorecards or broader financial services analytics would be highly beneficial
Ideal background:
This role would likely suit someone in their second or third move who has already built strong hands-on experience in a commercial environment. The ideal person will be technically strong, pragmatic, and excited by the chance to shape how data is used in a growing fintech lender.
Profiles from lending, credit risk, underwriting, pricing, portfolio analytics or decisioning environments are likely to be particularly relevant.
