This is a rare and exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role at the heart of safeguarding and community resilience. As Chair of Channel for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, you will provide expert leadership in preventing radicalisation and supporting individuals at risk.

This role is about much more than process, it’s about, leading multi-agency discussions, and driving real world outcomes that protect people and strengthen communities. You’ll represent the Council at a senior level, working with leaders, politicians, and partners across the region to steer meaningful change and make a lasting impact.

This is a highly influential post where your voice will matter. You’ll guide discussions that set strategic priorities, lead the oversight of Channel cases, and hold partners to account to ensure the very best safeguarding standards are delivered.

This is a part-time, permanent post working 16 hours per week from Monday to Friday (hours to be discussed at interview). You’ll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at City Hall or working remotely from home to suit your needs.

What you’ll be doing

No two days will be the same in this varied role. One day you may be leading a Channel Panel discussion with senior partners; the next, you may be shaping a new local strategy, advising senior managers, or supporting service development projects that respond to emerging local and national priorities.

* Chairing the Channel Panel for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland – leading sensitive discussions, making recommendations, and ensuring appropriate safeguarding decisions are taken.
* Overseeing Channel cases, providing high-level scrutiny and accountability, and ensuring partners take forward actions effectively.
* Advising Council leaders, politicians, and external partners, using your expertise to shape decisions and drive best practice.
* Leading on local frameworks and strategies, ensuring that our Prevent and safeguarding responses remain robust, innovative, and effective.
* Representing the Council at a senior level, building strong relationships with national, regional, and local agencies to influence outcomes and promote partnership working.
* Driving service development, responding to new initiatives, legislative changes, and evolving risks.

You’ll join the Prevent Team, a small but dedicated team, but will work daily with a wide network of senior partners, agencies, and community representatives, making this a highly collaborative and outward-facing role.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for someone with significant expertise, credibility, and leadership skills. This role demands not just technical knowledge, but also the ability to inspire confidence, command authority in complex discussions, and make balanced decisions that stand up to scrutiny.

* Proven leadership experience in safeguarding, community safety, counter-extremism, or a related field.
* Strong partnership skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
* Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior leaders and politicians.
* A deep understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and the UK Prevent Strategy.
* Resilience, discretion, and sound judgement when dealing with sensitive and high-risk issues.
* A track record of delivering outcomes in complex, multi-agency environments.

This role would suit someone who is both a strategic thinker and a decisive leader, with the personal authority to chair high level discussions and the drive to ensure effective action is taken.
