We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric and Neonatal Matron at Walsall Manor Hospital. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic senior nurse committed to quality, patient safety, and service excellence to lead and further develop our paediatric and neonatal services.
PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP
* 1.1 Act as a highly credible clinical leader, providing a strong professional role model, involving in the delivery of clinical care and ensuring evidence‑based practice.
* 1.2 Lead and direct the implementation of nursing KPIs and local and national clinical governance initiatives, developing action plans with clear responsibilities and deadlines.
* 1.3 Facilitate and identify opportunities to develop clinical practice and care pathways.
* 1.4 Participate actively in Trust and Care Group management teams and wider multidisciplinary meetings, presenting in appropriate forums.
* 1.5 Uphold the Nursing & Midwifery Council Professional Code of Conduct, taking accountability for professional actions.
* 1.6 Develop a culture that empowers Sisters/Charge Nurses to reach their full potential, supporting succession planning.
* 1.7 Ensure safe staffing levels are maintained and support Senior Sisters/ Charge Nurses in planning workforce distribution.
* 1.8 Undertake regular ward visits, maintain a visible presence, and implement escalation procedures for professional and operational issues.
PATIENT AND STAFF SAFETY
* 2.1 Ensure staff awareness of responsibilities regarding patient safety, reviewing clinical incidents and managing them per Trust Policy.
* 2.2 Identify incident trends and liaise with governance teams to develop and monitor action plans.
* 2.3 Maintain and review risk registers in accordance with Trust Policy.
* 2.4 Lead formal and informal investigations when safety is compromised and take immediate action as appropriate.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
* 3.1 Manage pay and non‑pay budgets, supporting Senior Sisters and Charge Nurses in financial responsibilities.
* 3.2 Analyse monthly budget reports, report variance issues, and develop corrective action plans.
* 3.3 Act as an authorised signatory for non‑pay budgets within authorised levels.
* 3.4 Ensure safe handling of patient property and valuables.
* 3.5 Conduct monthly reviews of pay, non‑pay, and agency spend, and support cost‑improvement measures.
SITE MANAGEMENT
* 4.1 Participate in on‑site rota as required.
HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
* 5.1 Manage disciplinary, performance, and attendance issues, working closely with HR and Staff Side colleagues.
* 5.2 Ensure Senior Sisters and Charge Nurses have received appropriate training and provide advisory support.
PATIENT / CARER SUPPORT
* 6.1 Seek patient views, value feedback, and disseminate lessons from patient focus groups, surveys and day‑to‑day interactions.
* 6.2 Proactively resolve issues that may lead to dissatisfaction, ensuring ward‑level strategies to diffuse escalation.
* 6.3 Adhere to Trust Policy for handling complaints, leading investigations and developing action plans.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
* 7.1 Support senior nurses in developing and maintaining management and leadership skills through induction programmes, learning culture, and appraisal processes.
