Overview Of The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Town Planner to join our expanding team. You will be based in one of our North West of England offices (Altrincham or Liverpool) and support delivery of major infrastructure projects across diverse sectors including rail, defence, energy generation, energy and water infrastructure, climate resilience, education, health, housing, employment, mixed‑use regeneration and waste‑focused schemes.
You will help drive the growth of our Northern Planning Team, building relationships within the region and working alongside the full range of technical disciplines Mott MacDonald offers on large, complex, challenging projects for clients such as Network Rail, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), United Utilities, National Highways, National Grid, Environment Agency, NHS, government departments and local authorities.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
* Work within the planning team to deliver a range of planning projects, including project‑managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Write and review high‑standard planning deliverables: options appraisals, consenting strategies, planning policy preparation, and accurate consenting advice for TWAOs, DCOs and other consents.
* Lead and coordinate planning applications, managing contributions from junior staff and sub‑consultants.
* Liaise with Local Planning Authorities / Statutory Consultees to ensure timely registration and determination of applications.
* Prepare inputs and support bids for new work.
* Support junior staff in chartership and professional development.
* Drive growth of the Northern Planning team, engage with current and potential clients, and raise the team’s profile across the region.
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Degree and/or Masters in Town Planning
* Extensive town planning experience
* Chartered Member of the RTPI
* Experience preparing and submitting planning applications, drafting reports, feasibility studies, master‑plans and regeneration strategies
* Experience with private and public sector client bodies
* Active role in delivery of varied infrastructure, regeneration and environmental projects
* Experience overseeing or project‑managing multidisciplinary projects
* Experience supporting and mentoring junior team members
* Teamworking skills for project delivery
* Financial accountability and delivery within budget
