This is an exciting time for our local population, with many planned developments in Adult Medicine, innovative SDEC pathways, and Frailty, feeding into System Wide pathways. The successful candidate will be part of an enthusiastic team of Physicians dedicated to providing high quality patient care.
Roles and Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for day‑to‑day supervision and will work collaboratively with the team to deliver the clinical care strategy, ensuring the highest quality of care for patients in all settings.
Key duties include:
 * Clinical supervision of resident and specialty doctors regarding the day‑to‑day care of inpatients.
 * Support facilitated discharge via the Hospital At Home Team.
 * Attend relevant professional meetings and other educational activities to attain Royal College of Physicians accreditation requirements and stay updated in the latest medical knowledge.
 * Participate in the Department and Hospital Clinical Governance processes, working with others to improve the standard of care and develop best practice.
 * Involved in the development of all clinical services in liaison with consultant colleagues and the Senior Management Team.
 * Participate in the General Medical on‑call rota (additional 1PA) – a one‑in‑sixteen rota with weekday and weekend on‑call duties.
Education:
 * Play an active role in the induction and training of new staff.
 * Support and develop teaching opportunities in General Medicine with doctors and other care providers in the local hospital and community.
 * Provide informal teaching during ward rounds, team meetings and multidisciplinary meetings.
Person Specification – Qualifications
 * MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
 * Full and Specialist registration (and licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
 * UK‑trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within 3 months of CCT.
 * Non‑UK‑trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
 * MD, PhD, or equivalent qualification (desirable).
Person Specification – Clinical Skills
 * Wide experience in all aspects of General Internal Medicine and SDEC.
 * Experience of multidisciplinary team working at senior level.
 * Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care at consultant level.
 * Demonstrates ability in managing common acute and chronic conditions, including emergencies (desirable).
 * Experience of providing leadership (desirable).
Person Specification – Personal Skills
 * Clarity in written and spoken communication with the capacity to adapt language appropriately.
 * Logical and lateral thinking to solve problems and make decisions, indicating an analytical approach.
 * Leadership, decision‑making, organisational and motivational skills for audit and quality improvement projects.
 * Capacity to work under pressure, initiative, resilience, and to deliver good clinical care in the face of uncertainty.
 * Experience of service innovation and development (desirable).
 * Understanding of NHS management, resources, and effective multidisciplinary teamwork (desirable).
