An exciting opportunity has arisen at CUH to be part of Paediatric Cardiology team on a 12 month secondment covering maternity leave. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and utilise these to enhance patient care and experience. You will be joining a diverse, stimulating and excellent service, to provide specialist care to children, young people and their families affected by cardiac conditions with a focus on congenital heart disease. We care for patients and their families from birth and through to transition to adult services.

As part of your role, you will be responsible for providing specialist nursing expertise to the children, young people, families and professional colleagues. You will interface with all relevant professional groups and agencies within and outside the Trust to enhance the delivery of care to families affected by cardiac conditions, providing assessment, guidance and support.
Main duties of the job The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for providing safe and effective care to all children within a defined paediatric cardiology caseload.
Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students
The post holder will act as a key worker for the child and family, ensuring smooth co-ordination throughout the treatment pathway. This includes from diagnosis to the end of treatment.
The post holder will act as a link between the patient and family and medical teams at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH), local hospitals, specialist centres and primary care teams

Person Specification Qualifications Registered children's nurse, educated to degree/diploma level
Teaching/ Assessing/ Mentoring module
Advanced communication skills/counselling qualification or willingness to undertake
Master's Degree
Advanced clinical assessment
Experience Significant acute General Paediatric Nursing experience including cardiac experience
Experience in leading a team or in routinely coordinating a shift on a children's ward.
Experience working autonomously
Significant relevant experience in the Specialty and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills.
Community Children's Nursing
Experience in managing a change in clinical practice
Knowledge Understanding of chronic disease management
Knowledge of community support networks available to children, parent and families
Skills Good verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of working as an integral member of a small team.
Adaptable to changing situations due workload and colleagues' needs.
Ability to undertake teaching of staff and patients.
Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload; effective time-management.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead developments in practice.
Commitment to multidisciplinary working.
Demonstrates ability to work across organisational boundaries
Additional Requirements Good presentation/ clinical teaching skills
Ability to travel within the region
Ability to work flexibly
The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
