Workplace Classification:
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. It requires being onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team:
GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT solutions for motorsports, enabling enhanced interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and race teams to accelerate performance and wins in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA series.
The Role:
The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and hands-on software delivery. This experienced role requires expertise in scalable cloud systems, solution architecture, and a strong foundation in software development, especially in aerodynamics systems design for motorsports.
Responsibilities:
* Lead development of GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling and visualization.
* Design solution architectures and lead team consensus on technical approaches.
* Focus on modern application design, modular frameworks, and system integration.
* Identify and address value gaps within the aerodynamics team with innovative solutions.
* Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth delivery milestones.
* Deliver scrum stories, develop playbooks, interfaces, and deployment frameworks.
* Collaborate with team members and ensure reliable, self-managed delivery.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
* Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, data streaming platforms.
* Experience with full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* At least 5 years in microservices development, 2 years in web services design.
* Proficiency with containers (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Masters degree in a technical discipline.
* Exposure to aerodynamics engineering, AI & ML, VR frameworks, data streaming (Kafka, Pulsar, etc.).
* Experience with cross-platform development, UI/UX design, system architecture, and data serialization.
* Passion for motorsports and high-paced environments.
