The governors and leadership team of our school wish to appoint a positive, energetic and hard-working person to become part of our team as our school caretaker Grade 5 (pay award pending). The role is primarily to ensure that the school environment is safe, clean and tidy, and attractive for our children, families and staff. The role will require you to have good common sense, practical skills and experience in using your own initiative. The role also requires the successful candidate to be both key holder and a contact for the school alarms systems, so a willingness to respond to call outs is required.
The hours for this role are 17.5 hours per week, to include opening of the school in the mornings and locking up late afternoon/evening for 44 weeks per year. This includes the 39 school weeks in the year plus 5 weeks during the school holidays (split across the Christmas, Easter and summer breaks). The position is to start as soon as possible. There may be flexibility around the hours and working weeks for the right candidate.
The Main Aspects Of This Role Will Include
* Managing the day to day work of the cleaning team
* Acting as a keyholder for the school on a daily basis - unlocking the premises in the morning and securing it in the evening. Responding to call-outs from the alarm companies as required (overtime, at time and a half, is offered for this)
* Planned maintenance duties - providing access to contractors as required and ensuring the security of the school premises. Ensuring that the planned fire, intruder and water checks are carried out throughout the school in accordance with the relevant school policies and recording/maintaining the records of these tests/results
* Reactive maintenance duties - as needed to ensure a safe and secure environment (including, but not limited to, gritting paths in cold weather, path clearance, site tidying, responding to site security and health and safety issues as they arise)
* Repairs and general maintenance - basic DIY work which may include maintenance, decorating, carpentry and minor plumbing. Your current skill set will be considered in this
* Cleaning - relief cleaning as necessary in the event of staff sickness, assistance throughout the annual deep clean and ground floor window cleaning. You will also need to help with the school waste and recycling bins on a daily and weekly basis
* Porterage - the receipt and storage of deliveries to the the school and helping to set up and clear way for school events. This role does involve a degree of manual handling and working at height - for which training can be offered but experience is desirable
* Health and Safety - compliance with policies and reporting of any unsafe activities
