Reports to:Lead Nurse (Clinically) -Practice Manager (Administrative)

Salary Range:£12.94 per hour

Hours: 20hours per week

Working under thedirect supervision of the Lead Nurse and strictly in accordance with specificCentre guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist theCentre clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes ofpatient care.

Main JobResponsibilities:

Note:This is a new role and the job description will be subject to individualperformance reviews and will be modified as and when required.


Main duties of the job

Duties & Responsibilities:

* New patienthealth checks
* ECGrecording
* Chaperoningduties
* Processingand management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
* Sterilising,cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
* Vaccine/coldchain storage, monitoring and recording
* Surgicalequipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
* Preparingand maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patientcare interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minoroperations
* Assisting inthe assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
* Undertakingspecific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated andtaught specifically in relation to that individual
* Helping toraise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
* Assistingwith the collection and collation of data on needs related to health andwell-being

Job responsibilities

Confidentiality:

* In thecourse of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather,sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the rightto expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
* In theperformance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder mayhave access to confidential information relating to patients, ONPL staff andother healthcare workers. They may alsohave access to information relating to the ONPL as a businessorganisation. All such information fromany source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
* Informationrelating to patients, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business ofthe Centre may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with theCentre policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protectionof personal and sensitive data.

Thepost-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and othershealth, safety and security as defined in the Centres Health & SafetyPolicy, to include:

* Usingpersonal security systems within the workplace according to Centre guidelines
* Identifyingthe risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a waythat manages those risks
* Makingeffective use of training to update knowledge and skills
* Usingappropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy andsafe way and free from hazards

* Takingresponsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstratingskills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
* Ensuringmandatory training is up to date including Basic Life Support

* Participatein audit where appropriate

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level.


Experience

* Experience of working in a primary care environment.
* Experience of working with the general public.
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting.


Clinical Knowledge & Skills

* NHS Health Checks inc. Height, weight, BP, Pulse
* ECGs
* Venepuncture
* Chaperone procedure
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes


Skills

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Clear, polite telephone manner
* Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
* Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
* Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
