Scientific Officer (Landfill) Location: Belfast | Rate: £20.66 PAYE | Start: 15 Dec 2025 Hours: 37 per week | Contract: Temporary Are you an environmental science professional looking for a challenging and hands-on role? Join a specialist team delivering environmental monitoring and landfill management projects. This role provides the opportunity to work across groundwater, leachate, surface water, and landfill gas monitoring programmes, making a real impact on environmental safety and compliance. What You'll Do Carry out environmental monitoring programmes, surveys, and sample collection. Analyse and interpret groundwater, surface water, and landfill gas data. Operate, maintain, and calibrate monitoring equipment and dataloggers. Monitor and adjust landfill gas extraction systems for safe and efficient operation. Prepare technical reports and maintain computer-based records of monitoring activities. Provide advice and guidance on environmental monitoring and equipment. Investigate pollution complaints and assist with regulatory compliance projects. Support training, supervise contractors, and contribute to team objectives. Occasionally participate in out-of-hours monitoring or noise services. Who We're Looking For Third-level qualification in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent, OR substantial relevant experience (2-3 years) in landfill monitoring and environmental water sampling. Full driving licence and access to transport. Experience with environmental monitoring, landfill gas management, or related sites. Strong IT skills including spreadsheets, databases, GIS, and data logging software. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
