Responsibilities
You will identify student cohorts for the alternative curriculum and deliver relevant courses to provide them with necessary qualifications. A core component of the role is extensive external liaison, acting as the single point of contact for accessing specialist support services such as the Social and Youth Services, the Education Welfare Service, and the Probation Service. You will develop and implement time-bound action plans with SMART targets to remove barriers to learning, establish and maintain supportive mentoring relationships, and undertake necessary student testing (e.g., Lucid). The role involves supporting and encouraging pupils toward further education, apprenticeships, or employment. You are responsible for leading the management of the Personalised Learning Centre (PLC) and strategically identifying and delivering alternative courses and intervention strategies relevant to specific student cohorts. This role requires a proactive approach to multi‑agency collaboration, a passion for mentoring, and a focus on removing barriers to learning.
Qualifications
Essential requirements include experience of working in a school environment with young people who have faced specific difficulties and vulnerabilities. Candidates must demonstrate experience and knowledge of issues affecting students and young people, enabling them to offer supportive assistance. Key skills include the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences, excellent time management and organisational skills, and proficiency in using standard ICT packages. The post holder must be able to develop programmes of work that will develop self-esteem and confidence.
