Job Title: Energy Manager
Purpose of the Job
The Energy Manager is responsible for enabling the client’s energy‑reduction programmes through monitoring, targeting, and interventions on building services. The role has a strong focus on supporting the contract’s dedicated Engineering Maintenance team to ensure client assets are maintained and operated as efficiently as possible.
Key Responsibilities
Building Performance Improvement
1. Perform deep‑dive audits on existing HVAC and electrical systems and identify opportunities or design gaps for optimisation through actionable recommendations.
2. Deliver tactical implementation of BMS optimisation recommendations.
3. Monitor data systems to identify ways of enhancing asset energy performance.
4. Align with the BGIS Building Performance team to ensure connected technologies are used effectively.
5. Support data‑led migration of infrastructure, when applicable, and act as the super‑user of the BGIS AMI platform where required.
Energy Monitoring
6. Review data analytics to identify adverse trends and anomalies and produce progress reports.
7. Monitor energy performance in line with NABERS principles under the governance of BGIS NABERS assessors.
8. Manage energy‑related queries and conduct on‑site investigations, including BMS interventions in collaboration with the Engineering Team.
9. Provide technical and operational oversight of utility and non‑utility meter data collection to ensure accurate monitoring, including management of gaps and dropouts.
Engagement and Governance
10. Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders.
11. Act as the gatekeeper for maintaining building Design Operations (DESOPS), manage change control, and identify and rectify deviations from DESOPS.
12. Support the implementation of client energy and carbon‑efficiency recommendations.
13. Liaise with Engineering and Building Performance teams to ensure best practice is maintained.
14. Develop an Energy Champions forum, including training and engagement to promote stakeholder awareness of energy and utility usage.
Requirements and Skills
15. Proven experience as an Energy Manager within Building Services.
16. Strong analytical mindset with problem‑solving skills, engineering controls expertise, and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
17. Excellent communication skills.
18. Experience with BMS/automated controls, including Trend IQ Vision 4, Trend View 8, and Tridium Niagara.
19. Familiarity with administration and management of modern database and information‑system technologies.
20. Experience using energy‑monitoring software such as KIVEEV and Kode Labs.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
21. Experience working effectively with skilled operatives or contractors.
22. Good understanding of energy‑management systems and Net Zero Carbon principles.
23. Experience safely working on a variety of installations, appliances, and equipment.
24. Practical experience with HVAC systems.
25. Excellent understanding of health and safety within the built environment.
26. Practical knowledge of property‑related Health & Safety legislation relating to electrical services (., COSHH, PUWER, Electricity at Work Regulations).
27. Ability to clearly describe and communicate situations requiring remedial actions by suppliers.
28. Ability to produce reports and proposals.
29. Strong fault‑finding skills on building‑services plant equipment and systems.
30. Demonstrable post‑training experience in the maintenance, repair, installation, and fitting of BMS/automated controls.
Desirable
31. Understanding of BREEAM, EPC, NABERS, TM44, LEED, or WELL, with accreditation in at least one being preferable.
32. Good understanding of modern smart systems and IoT technologies.
