The post will suit a person wishing to develop a career in clinical research, as they will attain cutting-edge experience in running clinical translational research. The successful candidate will be bright, independent, highly motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

The post-holder will be based in the Clinical Research Facility at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. They will acquire expertise in psychophysical assessments such as microperimetry and detailed colour vision assessments, as well as imaging studies including fundus photography, autofluorescence imaging, and high-resolution optical coherence tomography. They will also work on stem cell and robotic translational studies.

The post-holder will be expected to:

1. Collect clinical data (including history, examination findings, investigations) and collate in a custom-designed database.
2. Work collaboratively with other research team members and clinicians.
3. Recruit and coordinate patients for clinical trials.
4. Organise, maintain, and analyse project data.
5. Perform data analysis to understand genotype-phenotype correlations.
6. Manage clinical data and liaise with the lead investigator.
7. Participate in ongoing research projects.
8. Achieve goals set in consultation with their line manager.
9. Present research findings at national and international meetings.
10. Prepare research results for publication.
11. Undertake additional duties as requested by their line manager.
12. Engage in patient and public involvement exercises to promote the disease and research.

The post is part of an innovative research team led by Professor Lyndon da Cruz, focusing on cell transplantation for retinal and macular degenerations, and integrating robotic surgical devices for precision. There is potential to publish scientific papers and pursue a higher degree such as a PhD at UCL with full academic support. The role also provides exposure to Vitreoretinal clinics and operating theatres, though it does not involve surgical training or procedures.

The post-holder will also assist in animal operating trials, coordinate patient recruitment, manage data, participate in meetings, and contribute to research dissemination and public engagement activities.
