The role ofthe SIA Steward
To act inaccordance with the general recommendations of the Guide to Safetyat Sports Grounds (Green Guide) and the specific requirements ofthe Safety Certificate issued by the Local Authority under theSafety of Sports Ground Act 1975.
MainAccountabilities:
* Ensurethat you report for duty on time to sign in and report to your areain good time.
* Adhere to the Stadium dresscode.
* Attend pre match briefings and postmatchdebriefings as required.
* Know the location ofand be able to operate effectively if safe to do so thefirefighting equipment at the ground.
* Know thelocation of the First Aid Rooms and any location of First Aiders inyour stand.
* Be fully conversant with anyemergency messages/announcements used to alert staff that anEmergency has arisen.
* Be capable ofrecognising potential fire hazards and suspect packages reportingsuch findings immediately to an Area Manager Safety StewardSupervisor the Response Team Supervisor the Deputy Safety Officeror the Safety Officer.
* Comply promptly withany instruction given in an emergency by an Area Manager SafetySteward Supervisor the Response Team Supervisor the Deputy SafetyOfficer or the Safety Officer or a Police Officer..
* Monitor the spectators throughout the Stadiumfor signs of distress or overcrowding and take action in accordancewith briefing instructions.
* Preventovercrowding by ensuring the spectator limits in various parts ofthe Stadium are complied with and spectators sit in the designatedarea assigned by their ticket.
* Preventspectators as far as possible from climbing fences and otherstructures and from standing on seats.
* Ensurethat gangways and exits are kept clear at all times.
* Ensure you understand how the seating numberand row numbers work in your designated area.
* Know where and how to use the nearestemergency phone.
* Staff all entrances andexits.
* Searching of Spectators and their bagsin compliance with their SIA Licence.
* Remainat your allocated post as instructed unless authorised or orderedto do otherwise by an Area Manager Safety Steward Supervisor theResponse Team Supervisor the Deputy Safety Officer or the SafetyOfficer.
* Report to an Area Manager SafetySteward Supervisor the Response Team Supervisor the Deputy SafetyOfficer or the Safety Officer any damage which is likely to pose athreat to safety e.g. a damaged seats.
* Recognise any safeguarding issues and reportthem to the Stand Manager or by the emergency phone to the EventControl.
* Not use their phones to access socialmedia during their shift.
* Assist in theprevention of a pitch incursion/invasion.
* Perform Ejections or deal with conflictsituations in accordance with their SIA training.
* Assist as required in the evacuation of theStadium.
* Assist in the identification ofspectators who are banned from the stadium or who do not possesstickets or who are in possession of forged tickets.
* Assist in the prevention of breaches of theGround Regulations.
* Know how to identify anunattended package or bag using the H.O.T.S process.
* Develop an excellent knowledge of thegeographical layout of the Stadium in which you are employed inparticular its entry and exit routes and to know the emergencyevacuation messages as relevant to all areas of the stadium.
PersonSpecification:
* Previousexperience of managing spectators at sporting events either as aSafety Steward or in another acceptable capacity is preferable butnot essential as training is a legal requirement and will beprovided.
* Must have a valid SIA Licence andhave held it for a minimum of 6 months.
* Mustbe able to communicate calmly and effectively with the Area ManagerSafety Steward Supervisor the Response Team Supervisor the DeputySafety Officer and the Safety Officer when under duress.
* Must be able to communicate with spectatorscustomers and staff at all levels at all times particularly underhostile and challenging circumstances.
* Musthave good people management skills.
* Must beable to provide basic Emergency First Aid or know how and who tocontact in the event of identifying someone in need of first aid
* Good Customer Care skills would beadvantageous.
* Must be able to work as part ofa team.
* Must have a NVQ Level 2 qualification.
* All applicants must be availableto work weekends and evenings and commit to being available betweenAugust and May.
