About this role
We are currently recruiting for two Fire Alarm Engineers who will play a key role in safeguarding Thames Water’s critical infrastructure. This is your chance to step into a diverse, hands‑on role where no two days are the same—travelling across sites, solving technical challenges, elevating safety standards, and shaping the future of fire alarm installations. With dedicated in‑house training and a clear pathway into a Project Engineer position, this is more than a job—it’s a real opportunity to grow, lead, and make a visible impact.
Key responsibilities
This role will lead to carrying out fire alarm risk assessments/requirements (HSP 12) upon request across many of Thames Water's sites.
* Site visits to assess the quality of contractors' work against all standards
* Compiling and reporting these findings, including photos
* To advise and scope works with a contractor on resolving problems
* Carry out site fire alarm assessments/requirements to BS 5839-1
* Scoping/writing specification documents
* Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects
* Assessing tenders
* Financial management
* Programme management
* Communication and technical assistance to key stakeholders/customers
* Ensuring all asset data is captured and updated at the end of a project
Location
The role is office or site‑based for up to five days each week. We are seeking candidates located near our Mogden, Guildford, or Swindon sites, as the position supports South West London and nearby regions. You’ll also travel to other Thames Water sites as needed. As this is a mobile role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and your own vehicle.
A monthly car allowance is provided to support your travel.
Working hours
Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
Requirements & Qualifications
* Have experience within a commercial and/or technical role
* FIA BS 5839-1 Fundamental or equivalent certification in Fire Alarm principles and standards
* Training or relevant work experience
* Hold a full UK driving licence and have your own transport
* Can work unsupervised and use your own initiative to deliver specified outputs

* Salary up to £55,000 per annum, including car allowance, depending on experience and skills
* Car allowance of £4,500
* 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 days with length of service (plus bank holidays)
