Ward Manager – Stroke Unit

We are looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated individual to lead on developing our stroke unit. If you are passionate, with managerial skills and keen to improve the safety and quality of care delivered to stroke patients and lead a team, you may be the person we are looking for. We are looking for a committed and confident individual with excellent communication skills, to provide leadership on all aspects of care delivery for our stroke patients and maintaining their safety.
The post holder will work with the multidisciplinary team to produce protocols, to support patients and identify the points where hospital admission is both appropriate and necessary.
Main duties of the job
* Having continuing responsibility for the 24 hour management of the ward and delivery of patient care.
* To have responsibility for the line management of ward based nursing staff, Housekeeper, Ward Clerk.
* To promote continuous development in clinical practice and deliver of patient care, encouraging innovation, improvement and appropriate change in service delivery.
* To manage resources within agreed budget.
* To provide a suitable and stimulating learning environment for students and for the ongoing professional development of registered staff.
* To maintain communication networks at all appropriate clinical and managerial levels.
Qualifications / Training and professional development
* Registered Nurse (Level 1) or a professional registration within healthcare.
* ENB 998 or equivalent.
* Degree in Nursing.
* Evidence of further continued professional development.
Experience
* Experience as an Band 6 grade or higher.
* Previous experience as shift/team leader.
* Experience of teaching students, HCAs and qualified staff.
* Experience of working within an acute, and or rehabilitation setting.
* Experience of working within a Stroke or Neurology.
* Experience of participating in budget management.
Skills, abilities, and knowledge
* Good communication skills, written and verbal.
* Competency in IV drug administration.
* Ability to work within a team and independently.
* Knowledge of up to date nursing and NHS issues.
* Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice.
* High motivation and ability to motivate others.
* Ability to work required shift pattern and special circumstances.
* Awareness of the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme.
* Understanding of SSNAP and its relevance to the clinical area.
