NPI Engineer – Job Description
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum + yearly bonus
Working Hours: Flexible day shift
Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced NPI (New Product Introduction) Engineer to join a leading engineering and supply chain solutions business based in Redditch. The successful candidate will support the introduction of new products and engineered components into manufacturing and supply chain operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Working closely with customers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, procurement, quality, and commercial teams, the NPI Engineer will manage projects from concept through to production launch while driving continuous improvement and cost optimisation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from initial customer enquiry through to production and launch.
* Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, purchasing, quality, logistics, and suppliers.
* Review technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, and customer requirements to ensure manufacturability and cost efficiency.
* Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) and continuous improvement activities to reduce total product cost and improve quality.
* Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing partners regarding tooling, materials, lead times, and production capability.
* Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, risk assessments, and engineering documentation.
* Manage APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and validation activities where applicable.
* Ensure all products meet customer quality standards and compliance requirements.
* Support procurement teams with supplier selection, cost analysis, and technical negotiations.
* Create and maintain work instructions, SOPs, and technical process documentation.
* Drive process improvements using Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
* Investigate and resolve production, supplier, or quality issues using structured problem-solving techniques.
* Support prototype builds, sample approvals, and pre-production trials.
* Monitor KPI performance relating to quality, delivery, cost, and project timing.
* Provide technical support to sales and customer service teams during project development stages.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Previous experience in an NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Engineering, or Technical Engineering role.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
* Experience working within engineering, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, industrial, or precision component environments.
* Excellent project management and organisational skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
* Strong commercial awareness and cost analysis capability.
* Experience using Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable
Experience with Lean Manufacturing, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, or Six Sigma methodologies.
Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) or equivalent industry experience.
Experience working with global supply chains and supplier development.
Understanding of CNC machining, tooling, fabrication, or assembly processes.
