Greenzone is a nationwide waste-management brokerage business that has recently been acquired by First Mile, a leading waste-management company pursuing a private-equity-backed buy-and-build strategy. This role is dedicated to Greenzone and will lead the finance operations team, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, strong financial controls, and accurate transactional processing across purchase ledger and credit control, while supporting ongoing post-acquisition change within the business.


Key responsibilities

· Ensure the smooth running of the Finance Operations function.

· Oversee purchase ledger and credit control teams, ensuring effective debtor and creditor management.

· Ensure all deadlines are met and issues are escalated appropriately.

· Perform and review daily bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.

· Monitor customer receipts and support credit control activity.

· Produce weekly aged debtor reports and support recovery actions.

· Ensure internal controls are maintained and improved where required.

· Support continuous improvement of financial processes and system usage.

· Provide regular financial and operational reporting as required.

· Line manage, mentor and develop team members, including managing absence and performance.

· Build strong working relationships across finance and wider business teams.

· Contribute to finance leadership discussions and initiatives.

Requirements


Skills and competencies

· Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise workload for self and team.

· Ability to work under own initiative.

· Strong numerical and analytical ability.

· Experience managing and developing a team.

· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.

· Competent IT user including accounting software and Excel.


Knowledge and experience

· Experience in finance operations or similar role.

· Competent with purchase ledger and credit control processes.

· Experience using Sage accounting systems.

· Basic accounting and VAT knowledge.


Qualifications

· GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

· Professional accounting qualification such as AAT desirable.
