Overview

We are looking for a well motivated, committed and enthusiastic part-time individual to join our friendly and progressive team. We offer diagnostic and rehabilitative services to both Adults and Paediatrics including Newborn Hearing Screening. The role will provide support as part of our busy Admin team, provide basic hearing aid support for patients and their families when required and perform an assisting role in the audiological assessment of predominantly pre-school children. An aptitude for working with children is required. Training will be provided within the department for use of our Audiology database, providing the assisting role in assessments and basic hearing aid support. We are committed to providing peer support and career development and we have close links with Leeds and Aston University regarding student placement and training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will both support the administrative function of the service including dealing with patients/carers and their families face to face, on the telephone and via email and assist in paediatric hearing assessment appointments with full training. This includes managing the patient booking system, dealing with patient referrals and processing appointments. The post holder will also be providing basic hearing aid support when required. The post holder will work within a range of procedures and pathways in which they have received training to become competent. In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution.

Person Specification

Skills

* Essential: Excellent IT skills e.g. word processing, email, databases
* Essential: Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including communicating factual information to patients/carers
* Desirable: Basic clinical skills (Hearing Aids)

Qualifications

* Essential: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience
* Essential: GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent experience
* Desirable: Evidence of previous learning related to clinical area

Experience

* Essential: Experience of working with the general public
* Essential: Experience of organising and prioritising own workload
* Essential: Experience of working as part of a team
* Desirable: Experience of working in health or social care settings
* Desirable: Experience of relevant clinical area e.g. hearing impaired population

Knowledge

* Essential: Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & Understanding the New NHS
* Essential: Knowledge of general responsibilities related to patient information and record keeping
* Essential: Awareness of health and safety responsibilities
* Desirable: Knowledge of reflective practice and continuing professional development
