Calling all Nurses, Teachers, Allied Health Professionals, Mental health practitioners and social workers.

Due to some recent investment and development within the Neurodevelopmental assessment team in Cornwall, an exciting opportunity has arisen for us to recruit two new Neurodevelopmental Practitioners.

The successful applicants would be working within our welcoming and skilled Multi-disciplinary Neurodevelopmental Assessment team in the stunning county of Cornwall; contributing to the delivery of a successful and innovative ND assessment and advice service for children, young people and their families in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Would consider as a Band 6 or Band 5 - Band 6 developmental role.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be required to participate in the delivery of specialist Neurodevelopmental assessments and advice for children and young people (CYP) on the Neurodevelopmentalassessment pathway.

The main areas of focus will be to participate in the provision of high standard, specialist assessments and advice to CYP including those with highly complex presentations, and contribute to Multi-professional diagnosis of Autism and other co-morbid conditions including ADHD, Developmental Language disorder, Developmental Coordination disorder and Intellectual difficulties. This also involves specialist liaison with partners across the system in order to gather vital assessment information, as well as to inform the wider offer of support for CYP.

Person Specification


Education, Qualifications and Experience

* Professional Qualification with accreditation such as Qualified Teacher status or the British Psychological Society and or Registration with HCPC/NMC
* Minimum of degree-level training with evidence of additional training relevant to neurodevelopmental disorders and development
* Experience of working with autism, and other neurodevelopmental disorders, and with children and young people with complex conditions and needs
* Trained to use the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule


Skills and knowledge

* Able to carry out core diagnostic assessment work, such as structured and detailed observation of verbal and non-verbal communication behaviors
* Able to consider psychosocial, physical, emotional and environmental factors as part of a patient-centered approach during the assessment process
* Ability to use a range of assessment methods with children and young people and to be able to analyse and interpret results in relation to theoretical and clinical knowledge
* Knowledge of differential diagnosis and comorbidities associated with neurodevelopmental conditions (eg ASD, ADHD, Tic disorders, DCD, Learning Disabilities, trauma and attachment difficulties etc)
