Introduction
Acorn by Synergie is recruiting a Supervisor in Barnstaple to join a team responsible for providing managerial support and leadership across operational service delivery. The successful candidate will oversee staff, plant, equipment, and resource deployment to ensure a customer-focused service.
Key Duties
Manage the annual stock take and maintain stock levels, ordering bins, recycling containers, general supplies, and PPE.
Supervise, communicate with, and monitor Yard staff to maximise service performance, identifying staffing shortages and deploying agency or cover staff when required.
Record all recycling material data on DCC & Waste Data Flow systems, as well as DEFRA mandatory statistics.
Work with partnership organisations, including parish and voluntary groups, to ensure service levels are met.
Ensure BEC bins are emptied regularly.
Maintain sweeping and litter bin schedules, ensuring they are updated and accessible electronically via the website.
Create rotas to ensure sweeping cover is maintained seven days a week from 6am to 5pm.
Identify income-generation opportunities related to sweeping services and recycling material processing.
Ensure vehicle operating licence paperwork is compliant, including defect reports and log books.
Conduct inspections to ensure site operations comply with safe working practices and minimise hazards, using WAMITAB Level 4 competence.
Work closely with the workshop or external vehicle maintainer to manage vehicle availability and maintenance.
Carry out full supervisory duties including recruitment, interviews, inductions, probation reviews, appraisals, allocating work, return-to-work interviews, sickness reviews, informal capability meetings, approving leave, and identifying training needs.
Deliver the relevant parts of the service plan within the agreed budget.
Requirements
Excellent supervisory and interpersonal skills, including strong verbal communication.
Good general or technical education and experience managing a large team across varied functions.
Strong understanding of multi-functional direct labour units, including service standards and personnel/equipment needs.
Experience in managing and leading teams.
Experience solving logistical problems.
Computer literacy, including MS Office and bespoke software packages.
Good geographical knowledge of the local area.
Full driving licence for a van.
Working knowledge of waste or recycling collection vehicles and equipment.
