About the Role
The Fostering and Adoption Assessment Team has a vacancy for a permanent assessing social worker. We are open to recruiting two part-time workers. The assessment work includes undertaking mainstream fostering assessments, private fostering assessments, and non-agency adoption assessments. The successful applicant may also support capacity in the Kinship Assessment Team, undertaking kinship assessments as needed.
As a team, we are committed to achieving the best outcomes for Leicestershire children, ensuring they have safe, stable, and loving homes. We conduct comprehensive and analytical carer assessments, aiming to build relationships with families and support them through the process.
We seek social workers with at least 2 years of statutory social work experience, including safeguarding, direct work, and high-quality assessments. We support our staff with resources and collaboration, offering flexible working, professional development, and a supportive team environment.
A DBS enhanced check is required for this post.

About You
To apply, you must:
* Hold a Social Work degree or equivalent, such as CQSW, DipSW (with a specialism in children’s services), with extensive recent post-qualification experience in a statutory setting including safeguarding, court, and pre-proceedings work.
* Have experience working in a regulated service, capable of thoroughly assessing applicants while supporting their learning about fostering, private fostering, or non-agency adoption.
* Be able to communicate effectively, confidently, and succinctly with children, families, colleagues, and multi-agencies, both verbally and in writing.
* Show initiative, prioritization skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage workloads and travel as needed, including outside of office hours.
* Possess in-depth knowledge of policies, legislation, and best practices related to social work, especially fostering regulations and assessments.
* Be aware of and sensitive to the cultural, racial, linguistic, and religious backgrounds of children and families.
* Have comprehensive understanding of factors impacting positive outcomes for families and children, including child development, attachment, neglect, and parental issues such as substance misuse, domestic abuse, and mental health.
You must also demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and provide evidence of these qualities during the selection process.
