Are you an enthusiastic and motivated doctor looking to develop your skills in Acute Medicine? We are looking for Trust Resident Doctors to join our dynamic and supportive team within the Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) and Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) at Watford General Hospital.
Working alongside a team of eight Acute Medicine Consultants, you’ll gain exposure to a diverse range of acute medical presentations, participate in same-day emergency care, and contribute to high-quality patient care and service improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for doctors seeking to expand their clinical experience before applying for higher specialty training.
Responsibilities
* Provide Resident Doctor-level medical cover across AAU and EAU/ACU, ensuring continuity of care and timely review of acutely unwell patients.
* Lead the daily management of patients under consultant supervision, carry out key procedures, and support junior doctors and nursing teams.
* Participate in teaching, clinical governance, audit, and service development.
* Provide high‑quality clinical care for patients in the Acute Admissions and Emergency Assessment Units.
* Support same‑day emergency care and ambulatory services.
* Supervise and teach junior medical staff.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions, ward rounds, and handovers.
* Undertake procedures within scope of practice and competency.
* Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit.
Qualifications
* Hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Have completed Core Medical Training (or equivalent).
* MRCP is desirable.
Working hours
Core hours: 09:00–17:00, Monday to Friday (on‑call commitments as required).
