MSAT Senior Scientist I – Downstream Process Development (DSP) Location: London Full-time | Permanent Are you ready to play a key role in advancing novel AAV gene therapies from development to commercialisation? We’re seeking a Downstream Process Development Scientist to join a collaborative and dynamic Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT) team. You’ll help shape the future of gene therapy by driving innovation in downstream and drug product unit operations—from early-stage development through to GMP tech transfer. About the Role You will: Lead or support the development of downstream processes (chromatography, filtration, TFF, formulation, fill/finish) for novel AAV products. Transfer processes from lab-scale to GMP facilities. Execute and document development studies and protocols. Contribute to clinical and commercial manufacturing campaigns. Mentor junior team members and contribute to the knowledge base within MSAT. Drive technical excellence and innovation, leveraging high-throughput tools, statistical and mechanistic modelling, and DoE principles. Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and analytical teams. Background and Qualifications PhD/EngD with 2 years’ industry experience OR MSc/BSc with 4 years' experience in downstream process development. Key Skills and Experience Experience with AAV purification, TFF, and chromatography (ion exchange, affinity, etc.). Understanding of GMP, QbD, and scale-up principles. Familiarity with statistical tools (DoE, ANOVA, t-tests, multivariate analysis). Analytical assay experience (qPCR, ELISA, HPLC, UV-spectrometry). Experience drafting SOPs, work instructions, and supporting regulatory documentation. Knowledge of mechanistic modelling, programming, or automated data handling is a bonus.
