Clinical Lead for Specialist School Nursing and Children’s Epilepsy Services at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.


Responsibilities

* Provide clinical lead and responsibility for delivering specialist paediatric nursing care, promoting development, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of children and young people with complex health needs within special educational needs settings.
* Act as clinical lead for the paediatric epilepsy nursing service, supporting the epilepsy nurse in delivery and training across South East Essex.
* Lead the children’s respite service.
* Offer leadership and serve as a source of clinical expertise on SEND for partner organisations, especially educational settings supporting children with medical conditions.
* Champion children and young people with SEND within the organisation and with partner organisations.
* Direct line management (including budgetary) and responsibility for coordination and day‑to‑day operational management of the specialist school nursing team, epilepsy nurse and respite service.
* Ensure services are delivered in line with service specification and statutory duties (EHCP, LAC, safeguarding) and meet agreed KPI’s.
* Provide support and supervision to paediatric epilepsy nurses.
* Offer specialist clinical support and supervision to specialist school nurses, including support on complex safeguarding matters.
* Demonstrate exceptional problem‑solving skills and the ability to respond to unexpected demands.
* Handle sensitive information and make difficult decisions on contentious issues.
* Promote the voice of the child and work collaboratively with parents/carers, voluntary and parent forums.
* Experience of risk assessing and completing complex risk assessments.
* Lead the transition to adult services for the team.
* Act as a key member of the education and health care plan (EHCP) panel.
* Serve as a key member of the children’s targeted senior management team.
* Take direct budget responsibility for the team.
* Maintain and improve own professional knowledge and competence in accordance with NMC guidelines.
* Provide strong professional leadership to champion health needs of children and young people with SEND within various forums, meetings and panels, ensuring the voice of the child/young person is paramount.
* Deliver and receive highly sensitive and complex information, specifically relating to safeguarding.
* Excellent ability to communicate, influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve best outcomes for children and young people with SEND.


Qualifications

* Exceptional communication, negotiating and influencing skills.
* Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder management.
* In‑depth understanding of complex safeguarding concerns and clinical risk assessment.
* Proven leadership and team management experience, including budgetary responsibility.
* Knowledge of SEND framework and related statutory duties (EHCP, LAC, safeguarding).
* Understanding of paediatric epilepsy nursing care and specialist school nursing.
* Ability to provide clinical supervision and training to nurse staff.
* Demonstrated problem‑solving, decision‑making in high‑pressure environments.
* Commitment to continuous professional development in line with NMC guidelines.
* Criminal record check and appropriate legal registration as a qualified nurse.
* Held a nursing qualification and experience in paediatric nursing.
