J43is a 24 bedded Medical Base Ward specialising in medical and elderlymedicine, caring for adults aged 17-75 with some older adult care too. Ourpatients have a wide variety of care needs therefore we are looking for ahighly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to enable and empower ateam whilst remaining patient centred. Our patients experience and patientsafety underpinning all aspects of the role.

Job responsibilities
Thejobholder will play an essential role assisting Senior Sister/Charge Nurse inteaching the nursing teams throughout the 24-hour period.
Asan experienced nurse the jobholder will co-ordinate activities on theward/dept ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times,providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within theward/dept. He/she will play a key rolein the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation,and evaluation of programmes of care.
Thejobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-basedpractice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management ofthe ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
Thejobholder will work within an environment caring for 24 mixed male &female with medical and elderly patients.
Thejobholder will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the day-to-daymanagement of approximately 45 whole time equivalent nurses and supportstaff.
PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Clinical
Maintain a high standard of patientfocused care in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines andpolicies
Act as a role model for thedevelopment of clinical skills and knowledge within the ward team
Maintain a safe working environment
Support the Senior Sister/ChargeNurse in setting and monitoring standards and seek to continuously improvestandards and the quality of patient care, including those standards definedin the National Benchmarks for Essential Care
Provide assessment, planning,implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring writtenrecords are kept
Acts in accordance with the Nursingand Midwifery code of conduct
In conjunction with the SeniorSister/Charge Nurse ensure management of clinical services and efficientdeployment of staff according to service needs.
Education and Training
Contribute to the promotion of apositive learning environment within the clinical area
In conjunction with the SeniorSister/Charge Nurse ensure all staff have an individual performancedevelopment plan
Ensure both self and team membersachieve annual mandatory training requirements
Participate in preceptorship andmentorship programmes
Undertake continuous professionaland clinical development, seeking opportunities to enhance skills
Managerial
Working with Senior Sister/ChargeNurse provide leadership to the clinical team, developing new rotas/ways ofworking
In conjunction with SeniorSister/Charge Nurse closely monitor bank and agency usage
Support Senior Sister/Charge Nursein investigating and responding to accidents, complaints, untoward incidentsand other significant events
Work with Matron/SeniorSister/Charge Nurse to promote the development of nurses undertaking the CNOTen Key Roles as considered appropriate
Deputise for Senior Sister/ChargeNurse in their absence.
