SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: As soon as possible; February 2026/March 2026
Salary: £23124 – £27258 per annum*
GSL Education is recruiting a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils within a nurturing and inclusive school in York. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference for children with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
* Support pupils with emotional regulation, self-esteem, and social skills.
* Implement personalised strategies and behaviour plans.
* Encourage engagement with learning and the wider school community.
* Work alongside teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to meet pupils’ needs.
* Promote a positive and safe learning environment.
* Support pupils in developing resilience, confidence, and independence.
As the Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Have experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or other additional needs.
* Be patient, resilient, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
* Understand positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
* Work well both independently and as part of a team.
* Have a child-centred approach and excellent communication skills.
* Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to apply).
