Job Summary
This is a 10 PA substantive post in community adult psychiatry based in Peterborough with the Peterborough Adult Locality Team (PALT) and the Primary Care Mental Health Service (PCMH). The post is based in Peterborough City Centre (Town Hall) but will require flexible outreach to Huntingdon and Fenland localities (averaging once a week). The post will share clinical leadership of the service with the South AO consultant and the roles will cross‑cover during periods of leave. It will also hold close links with CMHT community consultant colleagues in PALT, HALT, FALT and CAMEO. The post holder will be supported by existing senior substantive consultants within the North and a strong network of wider consultant support, including weekly academic meetings and a well‑established consultant peer group for adult consultants in the North. The post holder would be encouraged to act as both a clinical and educational supervisor for trainees.
The post will incorporate a prorated amount of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for the standard CPFT WTE split of 7.5 Direct Clinical Care to 2.5 SPA, equating to 6 DCC and 2 SPA.
Main Duties
To provide clinical expertise and leadership to the North Assertive Outreach team, working clinically with patients under the team’s care and collaborating with wider Cambridge and Peterborough health and social care system partners to best meet the needs of those in our population with potential AO needs.

Job Responsibilities
The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the team, psychiatric input and leadership in managing patients referred for treatment with severe and complex psychosis. They will provide evidence‑based treatment aligned with NICE guidelines, maintaining a biopsychosocial approach. The post holder will trailblaze Assertive Outreach in the wider health system, advise on system‑wide enhanced MDTs for those with potential AO needs, and lead the development of the full psychosis pathway. They will maintain Section 12(2) status and Approved Clinician status, be comprehensive in mental health, capacity and care act legislation, and perform Mental Health Act assessments when possible. They will serve as responsible clinician for patients on supervised community treatment orders, contribute to multidisciplinary teamwork, provide remote clinical and supervisory work via video consultation, lead development of KPIs and clinical outcome measures, participate in clinical governance and day‑to‑day service management, and collaborate with managerial and clinical colleagues. On call, the post holder will join the North Consultant rota approximately 1 in 21, supported by tiered trainees, with on‑calls banded as category A.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications (Essential)
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice
* MBBS or Equivalent
* Approved clinician status or eligibility to attend training
Education / Qualifications (Desirable)
* MRCPsych or Equivalent
* Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. clinical special interest, medical education, research, leadership)
Entry Criteria for the Grade (Essential)
* Specialty registration in specialty
* CCT in relevant specialty or within 6 months of attainment of higher training CCT at interview time
* Equivalent experience and competencies recognised by GMC
Experience (Essential)
* Proven experience of good working relationships
* Experience of multi‑disciplinary working
* Experience of teaching and supervision of doctors in training
Experience (Desirable)
* Publications in the field of psychiatry
