Overview
The post-holder will be employed on a wide range of Estates operational services to provide specialist engineering support to the hospital's Estates maintenance team and gain the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to develop into a future NHS Estates senior leader. She/he will be responsible for supporting the full breadth of all acute hospital Building services and specialist hospital engineering systems.
Key Responsibilities
* To ensure all Health and Safety Control and Asbestos, COSHH and permit to work systems are adhered to at all times.
* To follow departmental and the Trust's operating policies and procedures when undertaking this role.
* Work on his/her own initiative unsupervised within the standard operating procedures and prioritise the work schedule.
* Maintain good working relationships and communicate effectively, especially on the routine technical information with recipients who may not be specialists in the technical field.
* Hold AP accreditations and perform Authorised Person (AP) duties for which they are suitably experienced, trained, qualified and appointed.
* Participate in the Estates On Call rotas covering various Trust sites as directed.
Job Details
A permanent vacancy has arisen within the Estates & Facilities Directorate for a Trainee Estates Officer to join Barts Health NHS Trust. The role is based at Whipps Cross Hospital but may require working at other hospitals within the Trust. Duties cover the full range of Estates engineering services including planned and breakdown maintenance, servicing, and repair of buildings and fixtures across the hospital estate.
The basic working week is 37.5 hours, Monday‑Friday 08:30 to 16:30. You must have the ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and call‑outs as workload demands, for which additional payment is made. The position is also eligible for the NHS pension scheme along with access to a wide range of staff benefits and, in addition to public bank holidays, annual leave of 27 days on appointment rising to 29 days after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years.
