Council Tax Officer Location: London Borough of Newham (Hybrid - office attendance Tuesdays & Fridays) Rate: £21 per hour (umbrella) Contract: 3 months About the Role The London Borough of Newham is seeking an experienced Council Tax Officer to join their Revenues team on a temporary contract. This role is focused solely on Council Tax administration, collection, and enforcement - it is not a Benefits role. You will play a key part in ensuring the council collects the right council tax from the right person at the right time, helping to secure essential income for local services. Key Responsibilities Administer and determine liability for Council Tax. Manage the collection and enforcement of current and historical Council Tax debt. Provide excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and in writing. Work across service points within Newham and remotely as required. Ensure deadlines are met and service standards maintained. Promote a positive image of the council in all dealings with residents and external partners. Requirements Proven Council Tax experience - candidates without this will not be considered. Strong knowledge of NEC Revs & Bens and NECDM systems. Ability to handle complex cases and make accurate decisions. Strong communication and customer service skills. Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends if required.
