Overview
Systems Engineer (Windows and Linux) – Hybrid-working from Manchester – £55,000 to £60,000 per year – Plus excellent company benefits and incentives
The Opportunity
I'm on the lookout for Systems Engineer to provide technical support for a field engineering team who are undertaking installation, commissioning and maintenance activities for technologies on the UK motorway network.
You will support the operation of a national communication system, providing operational and technical support to customers, system users and other stakeholders while ensuring delivery and maintenance tasks are undertaken to a high standard.
Skills and Experience
* A proven background working as a Systems Engineer in an engineering environment (Defence, Telecoms, Rail, Highways, Energy, etc.)
* Strong IP Networking skills including addressing, subnetting IP Networks, routing, etc.
* Experience working with highways technology or traffic signals would be highly desirable
* Windows and Linux configuration and system administration skills, including experience with the following:
o Build and maintain clusters
o Operation of Hypervisor and virtual machines within clusters
o System administration with products such as Linux and LUCI
o Linux Shell and Scripting tools including bash
o Disk partitioning
Role and Responsibilities
* Support the operations of a team working on the live national communication system
* Provide operational and technical support to customers, system users and other stakeholders
* Undertake fault investigation and dissemination of relevant diagnostic information
* Produce technical documents, system design specifications, test specifications, etc.
