Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council are looking to employ a Motor Vehicle Fitter in the Fleet Management team providing an essential responsive maintenance/repair service for the Council's fleet of vehicles, ranging from small plant to specialist large HGVs, including alternative fuel vehicles.
This role is responsible for efficiently servicing and maintaining a fleet of specialist vehicles, plant and equipment, to a high standard of workmanship.
You must hold a valid UK driving license. A HGV licence would also be desirable.
The work is both varied and interesting, including:
Carrying out various aspects of vehicle maintenance, fabrication, refurbishment, electrical, hydraulic and running repair type work.
Maintain and repair commercial vehicles to ministry standards and to prepare commercial vehicles to in order to pass MOT's first time.
Identifying, diagnosing and repairing all types of vehicle related faults.
Taking assertive action in response to vehicle defects being identified by either driver defect note, service/safety inspection forms, observation or verbal communication.
The opportunity to carry out specialist duties as appropriately trained for when requested.
The opportunity to carry out MOT'S on taxis and private vehicles if appropriately trained to do so.

The workshop operates a two shift pattern system that is based on 37 hours Monday to Friday. You must also be willing to undertake work outside of normal working hours dependent upon the needs of the service.
You will also be able to work overtime on Saturday mornings when available as part of a rota, and be part of the standby and call out service, covering winter maintenance vehicle repairs during the months of November to April. Again, excellent additional payments are made for this.
