GEOSPATIAL DATA SCIENTIST ROLE (Junior & Senior)
Overview:
BirdsEyeView is an InsurTech venture based in London. BirdsEyeView builds Natural Catastrophe Modelling software for reinsurance and insurers globally. The software enables specialty insurers to model future floods, wildfires, tropical cyclones, and more.
The BirdsEyeView technology ecosystem includes a climate data infrastructure, scalable product development, and machine learning data cleansing and ingestion. These tools help underwriters assess exposures to climate-change-induced natural catastrophes.
About the role
You’ll support the development of Natural Peril models for BirdsEyeView’s WEATHER ANALYTIX platform, which provides insurance partners with climate and weather analytics to assess exposure and improve underwriting.
You will join a small team of scientists, developers, and insurance experts, influencing business applications and product development. This role is ideal for those interested in large climate and geospatial data, new technologies, and the insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities:
* Support strategy and implementation for the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform.
* Process meteorological datasets via partnerships such as with the European Space Agency.
* Develop models for wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, lightning, earthquakes, and floods.
* Collaborate with Business Development to define and deliver new products and features.
* Select and implement suitable technology solutions.
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or related; Master's preferred.
* Experience: 2+ years for Junior/Mid; 4+ years for Mid/Senior roles.
* Proficiency in Python for data and machine learning tasks.
* Experience with large geospatial datasets.
* Knowledge of statistical and data science modeling techniques.
* Understanding of web system architecture and development.
* Ability to work independently with good project management skills.
* Proactive attitude and effective team collaboration skills.
Nice to Have:
* Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, AWS
* Experience with ERA5/Climate Data
* Experience with MLOps
* Knowledge of the Insurance Market
