Teaching Assistant (Resource Base) – Join Our Team at St Mark’s Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the skills and empathy to foster true inclusion? St Mark’s is seeking a number of dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants (Grade 3) to join our Resource Base. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to provide support for autistic pupils, ensuring they are fully included, supported, and empowered across all areas of school life. The Role: You will be a vital link in pupils' educational journey, helping to implement their EHCPs and developing bespoke strategies to support their social, emotional, and academic growth. Whether it’s adapting learning materials, supporting interactions with peers, or providing pastoral care, your goal will be to promote independence and build the pupils' self-esteem within our inclusive school community. Key Details: Contract : Part-time. 30 hours across 5 working days. Daily working hours: (8:30am - 3:00pm). Term Time 5 Inset days. Status : Temporary (based on high needs funding) with the possibility of becoming permanent. Salary : Grade 3, Scale Points 5-7 (£17,269 - £17,822 actual). Start Date : ASAP. Job Description: Teaching Assistant (Resource Base) - Grade 3 Responsible to: Base Lead Job Purpose To work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. To support the inclusion of an autistic pupil in all areas of school life at St Mark’s. Please refer to the attached full job description. Main Duties and responsibilities Support for Pupils Deliver individual EHCP requirements, personal care, and hygiene support. Supervise and ensure student safety while facilitating access to learning. Develop student profiles and implement tailored SEN strategies. Foster self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion as a positive role model. Provide pastoral care and regular feedback on student progress. Support for Teachers and Curriculum Assist with lesson planning, classroom organization, and resource preparation. Monitor student behaviour and progress, providing detailed reports to teachers. Lead 1:1 and small group interventions for literacy, numeracy, and ICT. Handle administrative tasks, including marking, invigilation, and record-keeping. Communicate information to parents and carers as directed by the teacher. Support for the School Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies. Assist with supervision during breaks, lunchtimes, and school trips. Participate in staff meetings, training, and performance reviews. Work collaboratively with external agencies and the wider school team Qualifications and Experience Essential Able to demonstrate a reasonable standard of education with level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy to GCSE level or equivalent. Experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age in either a paid, voluntary or domestic environment and have an understanding of child development Proven experience supporting children with complex educational needs. Proficiency in ICT (Microsoft Office, email, and school software). Strong communication skills and the ability to work constructively in a team. EITHER NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or experience plus completion of the DfES Teaching Assistant Induction Programme OR have a minimum 3 years relevant satisfactory experience as a Teaching Assistant/Learning Support Assistant demonstrating a relevant skill level plus a willingness to undertake the Teaching Assistant Induction Programme and further recognised/relevant qualifications such as those listed above. Desirable First Aid certification. Specialised training in SEN, literacy, or numeracy strategies. Knowledge of the National Curriculum and relevant codes of practice.
