Machina Engineering is seeking a Senior 5-Axis CNC Mill Programmer to join our dynamic and passionate team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of 5-axis CNC milling processes and proven experience in programming, setting, and operating complex components on CNC mills.
You will work closely with our engineering and design teams to manufacture high-precision components for in-house automotive projects and demanding contracts across aerospace, defence, Formula One, and advanced engineering sectors.
Our facility features state-of-the-art Hermle 5-axis machining centres with integrated automation systemsdesigned for 24/7 lights‑out operation. Programming is completed using OpenMind hyperMILL with full simulation and verification to ensure reliable pallet‑pool production. Training on our machines and CAM systems will be provided if required.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and optimise offline 3D CNC programs using hyperMILL, including full simulation for lights‑out and pallet‑pool operation
* Interpret engineering drawings and CAD models to manufacture components accurately
* Work collaboratively with engineering teams to troubleshoot machining issues
* Identify and implement machining efficiency improvements
* Verify programs for lights‑out suitability, including the use of in‑process probing to ensure first‑time accuracy
* Perform quality checks on finished components using appropriate measuring tools
* Maintain a clean, organised workspace, ensuring tooling, job documentation, and records are kept up to date
* Work with tooling presetters to ensure process reliability
Desired Skills & Experience
* Proficiency with Heidenhain controls
* Strong M & G code knowledge
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Experience with probing and tool setting (in‑process and conventional)
* Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, ideally hyperMILL
* Experience with continuous 5-axis machining of complex components
* Knowledge of advanced cutting strategies, such as form tools and barrel milling
* Experience handling specialist tooling and advanced materials
* Excellent problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
* Competitive salary: £44,000 – £54,000 per year (depending on experience)
