Overview

The Diabetes/endocrine department is a consultant-led service focused on providing inpatient and outpatient care for diabetes and endocrinology patients. The post holder will be primarily based at the St Peters Hospital site but will work across both sites and will be a full member of the General and Specialist Medicine Division with shared responsibility for the organisation and operation of the diabetes and endocrine service. The post holder will be accountable to the Divisional Medical Director.

The post holder will contribute to the GIM on-call rota, provide ward cover and outpatient clinics. The role includes work as defined at Ashford and St. Peters Hospitals and expects an equal sharing of the workload within the department.


Responsibilities

* Contribute to the organisation and operation of the diabetes and endocrine service across sites.
* Participate in the GIM on-call rota, ward cover and outpatient clinics.
* Undertake continuing medical education and utilise the study leave entitlement appropriately funded.
* Participate in clinical audit activities and ensure proper records for audit purposes.
* Participate in the professional training of medical and non-medical staff, contribute to teaching sessions for hospital staff, and supervise junior medical staff in line with GMC and KSS Deanery guidelines.
* Engage in departmental staff appraisal as required and adopt continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge in collaboration with fellow consultants.
* Undertake other duties appropriate for a consultant as required.
