Are you an experienced Food Chemist with a passion for auditing and helping improve laboratory practices & quality?
Campden BRI supports the food & drink industry with scientific testing, technology, consultancy, and innovation. Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We're looking to expand our Campden Laboratory Approval Scheme (CLAS) Team and hire an experienced Chemist with an excellent understanding of quality and the passion to become an internal & external Chemistry auditor.
Position
1. Manage and deliver internal audits and independent laboratory assessments.
2. Manage CLAS corrective action reviews to defined deadlines and required standards.
3. Accurately assess the suitability and status of laboratory operations (management and technical areas) against set standards, provide recommendations for CLAS compliance, and confirm compliance with internal procedures/GLP during internal audits.
4. Review and comment on the technical content of methods and the suitability of supporting in-house validation/verification data and QC checks concerning CLAS assessments.
5. Assess the suitability of actions to address findings raised by CLAS assessments and internal audits, providing constructive feedback.
6. Respond to inquiries related to contract CLAS projects (as part of client contact during assessments) and promote Campden BRI as a centre of excellence within the food and related industry sectors.
7. Provide practical, reliable, and technically valid training and consultancy to help laboratories develop quality systems and work towards their chosen accreditation/certification.
8. Contribute to the development of services provided by CLAS.
Requirements
1. Recognized qualifications and proven, up-to-date knowledge and experience in routine food-related chemistry testing activities.
2. Practical experience and technical understanding of current standard/recognized food compositional methods, instrumental methods, common commercial rapid methods, and routine testing activities.
3. Experience and understanding of management, technical, and quality requirements in ISO 17025 and/or CLAS Standards—ideally gained through several years of a) managing/supervising or working at a senior level within accredited/certified laboratory operations, or b) developing and implementing quality systems within analytical laboratories.
4. Experience in planning and conducting in-house method evaluations/validations, appraising data, and compiling validation reports.
5. Experience with Measurement Uncertainty and related statistical approaches.
6. Training in auditing principles and previous experience auditing quality systems against recognized standards (preferably within laboratory operations) is desirable but not essential.
7. Ability to research unfamiliar methods/techniques to assess their suitability.
8. Ability to work independently, respond to unforeseen situations, rapidly appraise information, and make accurate decisions.
9. Effective team collaboration skills, good time management, and ability to deliver accurate work within deadlines.
10. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
11. Full and clean UK driving license.
12. No restrictions to work in the UK and for travel within the European Union.
13. Full and Part-time hours will be considered.
