An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced ornewly qualified Pharmacy Technician to join our growing multi-disciplinary team.

It is a requirement of the role to be registered with the GeneralPharmaceutical Society and have a BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent inpharmaceutical sciences. The successful candidate would preferably have someexperience of working as a qualified, registered Pharmacy Technician.

Primary care experience would be an advantage but is notessential. Teamwork, flexibility, enthusiasm and the ability to prioritisetasks effectively are essential skills.

Main duties of the job

Thepurpose of this role is to promote and support improvements to maximise safeand best practice in prescribing and improve the quality of patient care. ThePharmacy Technician will be a point of contact for patients enquiriesregarding their prescriptions. The post holder will help patients to get thebest from their medicines through effective medicines reconciliation afterdischarge and on other transfers of care, identification of patientspotentially suitable for repeat dispensing, providing assistance in themonitoring of high-risk and high-cost drugs, and handling of prescriptionqueries within the areas of competence.

Contributeto quality improvement and clinical audit, as well as supporting aspects of theQuality and Outcomes Framework, medicines safety and antibiotic stewardship. You will alsobe required to contribute towards practice financial stability throughmedicines optimisation and related targets in QOF.

The rolewill include training and development of practice based administrative staff thatprocess repeat prescriptions to support improved co-ordination and effectivepharmacy administration within general practice, especially with relation torepeat prescribing systems and processes.

We have a patient list size of over 15,000 patients.

The practice has on site parking and good transport links.


Job responsibilities

-Supportpractice clinical pharmacists and practice clinical teams to provide a safe andeffective repeat prescribing service.

-Complywith legal and professional requirements and with safe systems of work forre-authorising repeat prescriptions.

-Co-ordinatemedication review appointments and any changes of medication as advised by theclinical team.

-Liaisewith pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of anysupply issues and forward recommendations of alternatives.

-Medicinesreconciliation post discharge and on other transfers of care.

-Bringqueries to clinical team to include under or over usage.

-Dayto day handling of prescription queries within area of own competence.

-Deliveryof training and development to practice administrative staff who process repeatprescription requests to support improved co-ordination and effective pharmacyadministration. Use and maintain information reporting systems and databasesrelevant to the position including incident reporting, prescribing data andpatient outcomes.

-Participatein practice meetings, and other meetings to improve engagement of the role andto promote issues relevant to prescribing.

-Liaisewith multidisciplinary team, prescribing support team, community pharmacy andhospital pharmacy teams.

-Handlefunction specific information, which may be sensitive, complex or confidentialand appropriately recording, transferring and/or coordinating such informationin accordance with the GDPR; Caldicott Guidelines and the Confidentiality Codeof Conduct.

-Beresponsible for the organisation and planning of own workload to meet setdeadlines.

-UtiliseGP practice clinical systems to conduct prescribing audits.

-Supportthe clinical pharmacists/technicians and practices with the work required underNortheast and North Cumbria ICB

-Supportthe clinical pharmacists in shared care monitoring and processes.

-Incollaboration with practice Clinical Pharmacists and GP Prescribing Leadsensure that all major MHRA drug alerts, where appropriate and within levels ofcompetence, are acted upon within practices over an appropriate time frame andto advise on any medication changes that occur as a result

-Undertaketraining and development, to ensure the required knowledge and skills forpractice based work.

-Escalateproblems or issues to line manager that requires additional support or input.

-Carryout other duties which are appropriate to the skills and competencies of thepost holder and grade of the post as the priorities of the service change.

-Establishand maintain effective working relationships with GP practices, staff and otherhealthcare professionals.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Society and have a BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
* Evidence of continuing Professional development
* Good IT Skills
* Excellent communications skills (verbal and written)
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Ability to work safely under pressure
* Work as part of a team
* Have excellent time management and workload prioritisation skills
* Understand clinical governance and risk management
* Awareness of current medicines Management Agendas
* Knowledge of audit and research
* Demonstrate accountability for delivering professional expertise and direct service provision
* Self-Motivation
* Adaptable
* Ability and willingness to travel to all practices within the Primary Care Network
* Safeguarding adult and children training
* Immunisation status
* Previous work within patient facing role
* Understanding of GMS contracts and Medicines Management Incentive Schemes
* Experience of NHS IT Systems.
