Job Summary

This is a chance to utilise your skills within a forward-thinking team in which innovation, integrity and commitment are encouraged and embraced. A natural influencer, you’ll also call on a flair for organisation and excellent people skills essential when it comes to supporting managers with accident reports/inspections. If you have obtained an Occupational Health and Safety qualification to at least a NVQ Level 5 or equivalent and have strong communication skills this position offers a wide variety of rewarding opportunities. Equally comfortable working as part of a team or under your own initiative, you’ll keep up to date with best practice (and any legislative changes in the field) and will enjoy the scope this role offers.


This is a hybrid role where you will be expected to work 3 days a week at an NHSBT location. The base will be Birmingham centre, however as part of your role, there will be operational requirement to travel within the geographical area that includes Colindale/London area.


Main duties of the job

In this role you will be responsible for :-

* Providing health and safety advice to all levels of staff
* Covering, with colleagues in the H&S Delivery team, a telephone help desk
* Facilitating H&S committees at your local centres
* Maintaining the accident reporting system
* Supporting managers with accident investigations producing written reports as necessary to support these.
* Undertaking site audits and inspections.
* Providing H&S training at your local centres
* Encouraging the effective working between Occupational Health, Human Resources, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department and managers.
* Undertaking other responsibilities as required by the Head of H&S Delivery to support the wider workings of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department,

To achieve this you will be required:

* to work efficiently on your own, without direct supervision, or as part of team.

Be flexible in your working hours and travel away from your base in order to deliver the service required. Some overnight stays will be necessary prior notice will be given.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

* Experience as a Health and Safety Adviser providing advice, training, auditing, facilitating consultation and planning
* Experience of accident investigation, inspections and audit
* Experience of working closely with occupational health to find practical and effective workplace solutions
* Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), or equivalent Systems
* Knowledge of UK legislation relating to health and safety at work

Qualifications and Training

* NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification / experience
* Working towards membership of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or willingness to work towards
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
