Job Overview

Step into a career in clinical neurophysiology with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board at our St Woolos Hospital base. As a Band 5 Trainee Neurophysiologist, you'll become part of a skilled and supportive team, providing essential diagnostic services including EEGs, nerve conduction studies, and evoked potentials.

This Structured Training Position Offers a Progressive Salary Approach

70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate.

The trainee may, under certain circumstances, be eligible to apply for the STP in Neurophysiology which is a fully funded MSc course in Neurophysiology. The course is funded by HEIW and the academic content is provided by Aston University. This is subject to certain academic criteria being met, acceptance onto the programme and satisfactory progress within the workplace.

Main duties of the job

To perform routine EEG/sleep EEG recordings on adults and children as outpatients both onsite and offsite and inpatients onsite whilst awake, adapting the technique where necessary to accommodate the clinical state (such as psychological, emotional and aggressive) and degree of co-operation of the patient (such as learning disabilities and challenging behaviours).

Use telemetry (video) equipment during the EEG recordings having obtained written consent.

Advise patients before leaving the department of any necessary precautions around photo sensitivity and sedation.

To transport portable equipment from the department to the ward to to perform EEG recordings at the bedside, adapting the technique where necessary to accommodate the clinical state (such as psychological, emotional and aggressive) and degree of co-operation of the patient (such as learning disabilities and challenging behaviours).

To utilise digital EEG software to produce a detailed factual report on EEG recordings for viewing by the Consultant Neurophysiologist.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Knowledge And Qualifications

Essential criteria


* BSc Hons Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology or equivalent.
* Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology EPTA/ANS Board Examination Part I or working towards
* Neurophysiology (EPTA/ANS) Board Examination Part II or working towards

Desirable criteria

* Post-Graduate Diploma or equivalent experience
* Member of Professional Organisation

Experience

Essential criteria

* Must be able to show that they can perform the more routine investigations offered by the service. This will include reviewing and preparing factual reports
* Able to work autonomously in respect of standard clinical work and under supervision for more complex procedures
* Able to demonstrate underpinning knowledge of more specialist skills and some experience of observing these

Desirable criteria

* Evidence of experience of supervising students or trainees

Skills

Essential criteria

* Provide evidence of practical skills needed to record routine neurophysiology tests. Including electrode application of both EEG and surface EMG electrodes
* Provide evidence of ability to work in challenging environments
* Demonstrate ability to work with patients with challenging or confrontational behaviour
* Demonstrate ability to organise and prioritise their own work
