From Classroom to Crew – Building Skills for Life at Sea
Location: Oban Sailing Club (with hybrid option available)
Hours: 8 hours per week (equivalent to 0.2 FTE), with flexibility regarding the working day.
Salary: £12.60 per hour, pro rata based on agreed hours.
Benefits: Pension contributions and annual leave entitlement, calculated on a pro rata basis.
Contract: This role is offered on a six-month probationary period, followed by a fixed-term contract of one year, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and organisational needs.
About Oban Sailing Club
Oban Sailing Club is a welcoming and vibrant community of sailing enthusiasts, from beginners to very experienced sailors, inclusive of dinghy sailing and keelboats. We are in the final throes of becoming a SCIO where the intention is to focus on all water-based activities, including but not limited to paddleboarding, kayaking, rowing and swimming. We are committed to promoting sailing opportunities for all ages and abilities and fostering a strong volunteer base to support our activities.
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Club Development Officer to help grow and develop Oban Sailing Club. This role will focus on increasing membership engagement, supporting volunteer recruitment, supporting the training programmes and helping the club achieve its long-term development goals.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about community sport and development, who enjoys working with people and making a positive difference.
Key Responsibilities
●Organise and support the training programme and associated administration
●Develop clear learning pathways for water sports
●Develop and implement strategies to grow club membership across all age groups.
●Support and encourage volunteer recruitment and retention
●Help improve and promote the club’s social and sailing activity calendar.
●Work with the club committee to explore funding opportunities and assist with grant applications.
●Maintain and develop the club’s social media presence and website content to promote activities and attract new members.
●Attend committee meetings as required and provide regular progress updates.
●Assist with planning and delivering community outreach initiatives to raise the club’s profile locally.
●Manage the club hire booking process
Key Skills and Experience
●Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
●Strong organisational and project management abilities.
●Experience in community development, volunteer management, or sports club development (desirable but not essential).
●Familiarity with social media platforms and basic website management.
●Ability to work independently and proactively manage workload.
●An interest in sailing or water sports is advantageous but not essential.
