Job Overview East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated elderly medicine physician to join our high-performing Frailty MDT, providing daily consultant-led care and support to patients on our elderly/frailty wards. The role involves contributing to clinical governance, risk management, and providing teaching and supervision to junior medical staff. This full-time substantive post supports the comprehensive service for elderly/frail patients, both in the hospital and the community, and offers opportunities for research and teaching. Main duties of the job Delivering daily consultant-led care to elderly/frail patients and supporting the elderly medicine ward staff. Contributing to clinical governance, risk management, and ensuring appropriate standards of care. Providing teaching, educational, and clinical supervision to junior medical staff. Sharing responsibility for acute elderly/frailty/MoFD wards. Participating in medical audit and postgraduate teaching. Being part of the MDT on acute elderly/frailty/MoFD wards. Participating in acute on call and frailty weekend rotas. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities: Collaborate with management and consultant colleagues to develop the elderly medicine service. Ensure ongoing clinical responsibility for patients, coordinating with colleagues within the department. Contribute to consultant cover during leave. Develop and promote services that minimise hospital stay and promote recovery and independent living. Participate in medical audit and maintain clinical governance. Provide professional supervision, direction, and training to junior medical staff. Engage in postgraduate teaching activities. Attend meetings of the Directorate of Medicine for Older People. Be an integral part of the MDT on the elderly and frailty wards Share responsibility for acute elderly wards. To be part of the elderly 1 in 6 weekend rota. To be part of the acute on call rota. Person specification Attainments Essential Criteria Full registration with General Medical Council Inclusion on the Specialist Register or due admission to register within six months MRCP or equivalent. CCT or within 6 months of CCT or CESR Desirable criteria A higher degree such as MD, MSc, PhD or equivalent. Training Essential Criteria Experience in teaching undergraduates, post-graduates, nurses and professions allied to medicine Experience of clinical audit and understanding of the process
