Our Employability, Skills and Partnerships service operates across Dumfries and Galloway supporting the delivery of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s strategic priorities. The service directly contributes to and supports the ambitions set out in the Local Outcomes Improvement Plan 2017-2027, the Local Employability and Skills Partnership Delivery Plan 2022-26 and national strategies including the Scottish Government’s No One Left Behind and Best Start, Bright Futures.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to take forward the delivery of our Fairer Futures programme, a key initiative aimed at tackling child poverty through innovative, place-based support for families. As the Fairer Futures Lead Officer, you will work in partnership to design, implement, and evaluate a portfolio of improvement projects. These projects will test new approaches to delivering whole-family support, using the Scottish Approach to Service Design to ensure services are person-centred, collaborative, and impactful.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a pilot of transformational change across Dumfries and Galloway, working in partnership with local services, communities, and national stakeholders to improve outcomes for children and families.

This is a lead managerial role within the Employability, Skills and Partnerships service., giving you the opportunity to shape Dumfries and Galloway Council’s contribution to the Scottish Government’s Fairer Futures Programme. With staff and budget management responsibilities, you’ll drive service innovation, test new approaches and champion collaboration that improves outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

* Implementation - planning, delivery, and evaluation of Fairer Futures projects across multiple workstreams.
* Support the management of staff, budgets, and resources to ensure high-quality, evidence-based service delivery.
* Apply structured project management approaches to monitor progress, manage risk, and ensure delivery on time and within budget.
* Support multi-disciplinary teams to co-design services that respond to local needs.
* Produce reports, business cases, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
* Promote continuous learning and knowledge sharing across the project team and partners.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate proven experience in project and team management alongside a strong understanding of managing change and project risk. The role requires experience of working in partnership across sectors to deliver measurable impact as well as excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

An understanding of relevant local, regional, and national strategies, delivery frameworks and funding is desirable. The post-holder will be central to the delivery of externally funded contracts, including Scottish Government funding. A commitment to equality, innovation and improving outcomes for families is critical.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
