Job Title: Senior Pharmacist – Antimicrobials Banding: Band 8A Location: Kingston Hospital Start Date: ASAP Duration: 6 months Hourly Rate: Band 8A rate £38 - £40 umbrella Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, full-time Job Overview Pulse is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Pharmacist specialising in Antimicrobials to join the pharmacy team at Kingston Hospital. This role plays a vital part in antimicrobial stewardship, supporting safe and effective use of antimicrobials across the Trust. The successful candidate will work closely with microbiology consultants, clinical teams, and the OPAT service to ensure optimal patient outcomes and compliance with national prescribing standards. Key Responsibilities Lead antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and contribute to CQUIN targets. Attend microbiology ward rounds and audit outcomes. Support the OPAT service, including MDT meetings and patient monitoring. Develop and review antimicrobial guidelines, including paediatric protocols. Conduct audits on antimicrobial use, expenditure, and IV-to-oral switch practices. Provide education and training to pharmacy and clinical staff. Act as secretary to the Antimicrobial Stewardship Group and liaise with Infection Control. Participate in ward-based pharmaceutical services and dispensary duties. Support therapeutic drug monitoring and contribute to formulary decisions. Engage in research and clinical audit projects related to antimicrobial usage. Qualifications and Experience Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Postgraduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent experience. Independent Prescriber qualification (or willingness to undertake). Significant experience in hospital pharmacy and antimicrobial stewardship. Strong clinical knowledge in acute care and infection management. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
