PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,200 - £49,000, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the role
BBC Radio Solent has a rare opportunity for a Senior Content Producer, to lead and inspire our Dorset team to produce audio content for all broadcast platforms, including our Dorset Breakfast show - ensuring we achieve the highest levels of creativity and editorial standards. The Dorset Breakfast Show with Steve Harris broadcasts every weekday morning from our studios in the heart of Dorchester.
This is a job share, where you’ll be proactively studio producing the daily show three days a week, delivering engaging and creative, standout content. You will bring the team together and create an environment where the talents of the contributors and crew can flourish. Serving a TSA of almost two million people across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight, BBC Radio Solent reflects the lives of the South’s residents in everything we do.
Key Responsibilities and Impact
* We are looking for a creative, ambitious and forward-thinking Senior Content Producer to drive forward our Dorset output on all platforms.
* You’ll be confident in making editorial decisions in a live broadcast environment, with the ability to respond to breaking news.
* You’ll lead the team to develop creative ways of telling complex stories which make sense to our opportunity audience and have editorial oversight of the show.
* You will look for opportunities for telling your stories across multiple-platforms, coordinating coverage with the news team and social content producers. You’ll also push our audio aftercare, making the most of the content you’ve generated.
* You will ensure our content reflects our diverse audiences and keep up to date with emerging industry trends. You will be key to establishing and harnessing motivation in the team, generating positive working relationships with your team and across station and the wider BBC.
* You will regularly provide constructive feedback. You will be liaising with presenters and supporting them as required.
* Editorially, you will focus on quality over quantity of stories and ensure that the structure and make-up of the programme addresses audience habits.
* You’ll be bursting with ideas on how to maintain and build audience for our Dorset audience.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Previous experience of leading a team and delivering great results.
* A passion for local life in Dorset and the ability to look at stories from diverse perspectives.
* An experienced audio practitioner, you’ll have substantial experience of audio production and journalism, in a live broadcast environment, with strong editorial judgement.
* Resilience and the ability to work reactively under pressure will be core to this role and expected of the successful candidate.
* You’ll have the great people skills needed to collaborate with colleagues across our local platforms and with key stakeholders.
* You’ll also have a good knowledge of the BBC’s editorial guidelines, a thorough grasp of impartiality as it applies to our output, and good knowledge of broadcast law.
