As a Learning Officer in our Conservation Education team, you’ll play a key role in inspiring and engaging school groups visiting Whipsnade Zoo. You’ll deliver interactive, memorable learning sessions that bring conservation to life, while also helping to develop new activities and resources to support the curriculum. Working closely with colleagues across the zoo, you’ll ensure every school group has a fun, impactful, and meaningful learning experience, helping to inspire the next generation of conservationists and wildlife champions. This role is offered at 26.25 hours per week, worked on weekdays only. We are open to the hours being spread across either 4 or 5 days, but the core teaching hours of 9:00am–3:30pm must be covered. We’re also happy to discuss the option of this being a term-time only position, should that be preferable to the successful candidate. Key responsibilities School Site Activities: Developing and delivering and supporting educational activities at our partner schools sites linked to increasing Biodiversity within their school grounds, developing students scientific monitoring skills and students engagement with nature. Workshops: Delivering curriculum linked workshops within the zoo to school groups to help ensure they have positive learning experiences during their time with us. School Visits: Facilitating school group visits to the zoo, including supporting teachers and students throughout their time at the zoo, supporting and coordinating volunteers, assisting teachers to plan their time at the zoo and working collaboratively with colleagues across London Zoo to maximise the visitor experience for educational groups. Project Support: Supporting Senior Learning Officers and other colleagues where required on development projects related to school audiences and career courses. Experience Improvement: Working to improve the experience for schools and other educational groups engaging with us, including through reflective practice, evaluation and meetings. About You Delivered learning programmes in either a formal or informal setting. Worked with young people of a variety of ages and abilities. Presented workshops, talks, or lessons to a range of different audiences. Demonstrated knowledge of current environmental issues and sustainable actions that can be promoted to mitigate environmental impact. Applied understanding of different pedagogical approaches to maximise learning. C omfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, with a positive and flexible. H olds a full, valid UK Driving Licence. This role requires a DBS check in addition to standard pre-employment checks, including the candidate's right to work in the UK.
