Location: Hybrid initially (UK preferred; Aberdeen Office, Edinburgh/London considered)
Organisation: Orkora Limited
Type: Full time
Reports to: Founder / CEO
Clearance: Right to work in UK, ability to obtain UK national security clearances.
About Us:
Orkora is developing a new class of offshore nuclear power station, to be stationed in international waters and connected to shore via HVDC subsea cables. We aim to deliver scalable baseload power with unmatched environment, carbon, and political footprint efficiency.
We are assembling a world-class engineering team to prototype and validate the key subsystems of our power platform. The Chief of Staff will play a central role as a multiplier to the CEO whilst also developing and validating the economic models that underpin the business case.
Role Overview:
We’re hiring a Chief of Staff (Finance & Strategy) with an investment banking background (IBD/M&A) to serve as a force-multiplier to the Founder. ~60–70% of the role is building, owning, and stress-testing models (project finance, corporate, unit economics); the remainder is driving cross-functional execution, investor/interface work, and special projects that remove bottlenecks and accelerate the company.
Key Responsibilities:
* Model Ownership: Build and own the integrated 3-statement corporate model, asset-level SPV models, LCOE/tariff frameworks, and portfolio ramp curves. Implement scenarios, sensitivities, and Monte Carlo where appropriate.
* Capital Structuring & Fundraising: Translate strategy into financing structures (holdco/opco, SPV stacks, CFADS coverage, debt sizing, covenants). Support term sheet negotiation, dataroom prep, and investor Q&A.
* Unit Economics & Procurement: Build should-cost models for major systems (reactor, turbine,, hull/mooring) and vendor comparators (capex/opex, availability, yield penalties).
* Strategy to Execution: Drive OKRs, weekly priorities, and cross-team cadences. Convert ambiguous objectives into crisp workstreams, owners, and timelines.
* Board & Investor Materials: Produce clear, decision-grade memos, board packs, KPI dashboards, and quarterly investor updates grounded in model outputs.
* Market & Policy Analytics: Maintain views on tariffs, CfDs/PPAs, grid services, HVDC costs, and relevant regulatory/economic variables.
* Special Projects: Solve one-off zero-to-one problems for the CEO (e.g., financing case for a 2 GW asset, grid-services revenue stack, manufacturing ramp plan).
* Tooling & Reproducibility: Institute version control, assumption registers, audit trails, and model QA standards. Create a lightweight internal “model book”.
Qualifications:
* Background: 3–5 years in investment banking (IBD/M&A or Infrastructure/Energy/Power coverage). Buy-side infra/private credit/project finance also welcome.
* Modelling: Expert 3-statement modelling, DCF/LBO/project-finance methods, debt sculpting, covenants, returns waterfalls, and asset/portfolio ramp models.
* Tooling: Advanced Excel (index/match, SUMPRODUCT, array formulas, dynamic ranges); strong PowerPoint; comfort with Power Query. Bonus: Python, SQL, Power BI.
* Communication: Writes crisp, decision-oriented materials. Can brief up and across functions.
* Operating Style: Bias to action, high agency, comfortable with ambiguity, high bar for precision and speed.
* Eligibility: Right to work in the UK and ability to obtain UK national security clearances.
Preferred:
* Project finance experience in energy/infrastructure (generation, transmission, OFTO/HVDC, nuclear/offshore experience is a plus).
* Familiarity with CfD/PPA structures, grid-services revenue, capex learning curves, availability/derating modelling.
* Experience building investor datarooms, running diligence workstreams, and supporting commercial negotiations.
* Light-code capability (Python) for scenario automation/Monte Carlo; comfort with Git-based version control.
* Exposure to heavy engineering/EPC contracting and risk registers.
What We Offer:
* Career-defining opportunity to help design, finance, and build a first-of-a-kind nuclear power platform.
* Work on high-impact, civilisation-scale problems with a compact, world-class, multidisciplinary team (Skunkworks model).
* Competitive salary + equity options (EMI) and meaningful autonomy.
* Flexible/hybrid working; support for clearances, professional development, and publication.
* A culture that rewards clarity, speed, and ownership.
90-Day Outcomes (what “great” looks like)
* Deliver a version-controlled integrated corporate model and an asset-level SPV model with scenarios/sensitivities and an assumptions register.
* Produce baseline LCOE and tariff stack, financing case (equity/debt), and a clear pathway to target IRRs.
* Stand up KPI dashboards and a monthly board/investor pack tied directly to model outputs.
* Stand up the core dataroom structure and a diligence checklist mapped to financing milestones.
