Apprentice Project Manager (Environmental) – Leeds – Degree Level 6 – July 2026 start onwards
Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Energy business, we are seeking to strengthen our Project Management Office (PMO) capability and to recruit an Apprentice Project Manager to support the delivery of AECOM’s Great Grid Programme (GGP). This role is intended to start in July 2026, with a view to enrolling with a training provider and commencing external training in September 2026.

This role will sit within the Energy business unit, reporting to the GGP PMO Lead, and will play a key role in supporting programme governance, coordination and delivery across AECOM’s Great Grid Programme. The PMO is central to ensuring effective planning, reporting, risk management and stakeholder coordination across a complex and high‑profile portfolio of projects that are critical to the UK’s energy transition.
Our GGP PMO work includes:
* Supporting programme‑wide coordination across multiple project workstreams to ensure successful delivery
* Assisting with project planning, scheduling, reporting and performance tracking
* Supporting risk, issue and change management processes
* Working with project teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with programme controls and governance requirements
* Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of PMO processes, tools and reporting
Here’s what you’ll do:
As an Apprentice Project Manager, you will be required to support the GGP PMO. Responsibilities will also include but are not limited to:
* Supporting project directors, managers, and wider project teams in the delivery of projects, including environmental impact assessments.
* Supporting governance and financial control of projects
* Supporting project change control
* Stakeholder and communications management
* Estimating, planning and scheduling
* Procurement and contract management
* Risk management
* Quality management
* Attendance at and participation in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings, including training sessions
* Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an ongoing basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the completion and quality of work.
* Ensuring health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset
* Becoming an integral and valued member of the Environment team

You will complete the Project Manager Degree Apprenticeship with Leeds Trinity University, delivered through a blended learning approach. Apprentices also engage in independent research activities, and you will attend instructor‑led training sessions aimed at equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed for success.
You may pursue professional institute qualifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP). Upon successful completion, the apprentice will achieve a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Project Management.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree Level 6 (or equivalent). Equivalent experience may be considered.
