Facilities Support Worker - Porter / Courier

This is a 25-hour post over 5 days and willinclude weekend, evening and bank holiday working. Working patterns will be determined on a rotasystem.

Main duties of the job

Join ourteams, we pride ourselves in providing outstanding care to patients acrossHerefordshire and Worcestershire. We will provide you with resources to developand progress a long-term career to include flexibility, continual professionaldevelopment and s a wide range of wellbeing and support.

Working alongside clinical teams and infection control, Portering/ Courier teams provide local and regional logistics to support the day to dayrunning of hospital services across two counties. You will be required to work to schedules and procedures toensure a smooth operation across multiple departments.

You will form part of a team providing comprehensive Portering/ Courier services. Tasks will includetransport and collection/delivery of mail, specimens, pharmacy etc., onsite and to other sites as required. Whenassigned to undertake courier duties a vehicle will be supplied and must be maintainedto ensure it remains roadworthy and fit for use by others.

Duties include handling and monitoring medicalgas, recording, and processing paperwork related to receiving/making deliveries,managing, and allocating keys to appropriate staff/contractors, and moving equipment,provisions, laundry, waste and furniture, all in line with Trust policies andprocedures. You will also be required toundertake security of trust buildings when appropriate.

On some days, you may spend time lone working and aspart of a team on others. The role isvaried as no two days are the same.

Person Specification


Experience

* Portering and / or courier experience
* Experience of working in areas where challenges may present


Skills & Abilities

* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in both verbal and written formats
* Able to follow written and vernal instructions
* Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
* Reliable and punctual
* Deal appropriately with patients, staff and general public
* Willingness to work at other units covered by Portering
* To be able to work safely at heights e.g. ladders
* Ability to lift in accordance with the Manual Handling policy
* Ability to work other hours outside of contracted hours


Knowledge

* Basic computer literacy
* Support services
* Health & Safety
* Up to date knowledge of road regulations and legislation and existing speed limits for commercial vehicles.
* Medical gases
* Mortuary experience


Qualifications

* Current full driving licence
* First Aid course
* Dangerous goods safety awareness training


Additional Criteria

* Ability to work without direct supervision
* Self-motivated, physically fit and ability to lift heavy/difficult objects on a daily basis
* You understand that we will not provide sponsorship to work for this role.
